Suspect in Fordham stabbing pleads not guilty
The suspect in a brutal attack that killed a 17-year-old in Fordham pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder Monday, but prosecutors say he admitted to the crime.
Hector Sanchez, 21, allegedly stabbed Esmerlyn Toribio more than a dozen times Sunday night on East 182nd Street. He was remanded without bail.
According to authorities, the attack stemmed from an argument about a motor bike sale.
Friends and family members say Toribio had wanted to become a detective. The recent high school graduate was set to attend Berkley College in the fall.
Sanchez is due back in court on Aug. 19. Police say he has no prior arrest record.
