Northwell Nurse Nina Ng lives a double life. At Syosset Hospital, she’s the assistant director of nursing. Outside of the hospital, she is traveling across the globe, using her time and talent to provide medical care for those who are less fortunate.
"It has been very rewarding,” she says. “…You get to see what the world is like."

According to Global Response Management, the medical relief organization that Ng volunteers with, thousands of asylum seekers and refugees live in makeshift camps less than 500 feet from the U.S. border. Ng described a lack of medical care, food, water and bathrooms.
"All of that has solidified me wanting to go out and just help more," she said.

Ng says she hopes her work and passion for helping those struggling to survive will encourage other health care professionals to consider bringing medical relief to those in desperate need.
“I wish I could see a lot of my comrades in health care do it because the patients need it,” says Ng. "It is one of the most gratifying experiences in my life. Giving back to people who really have nothing and may not have nothing for the rest of their lives."
Ng described a lack of medical care, food, water and bathrooms.
