Police arrested an 18-year-old man in Middletown, New York Wednesday after he allegedly shot a 12-year-old boy at a Soundview playground in April.
Nicholas Joseph faces charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and jumping bail. He may face new charges at his arraignment, police say.
Joseph allegedly struck 12-year-old Isaiah Osborne in the hip with a stray bullet as he played basketball at the park around 5 p.m. on April 28.
Osborne's mother appealed to the public for help identifying a suspect, and police say witnesses came forward and led to the arrest. But investigators say the investigation is ongoing and they're hopeful more witnesses will contact them with additional information.
The NYPD says Joseph has 21 prior arrests.
