Teen with Ebola-like symptoms cleared at Brookdale Hospital
A teen was taken to Brookdale Hospital with Ebola-like symptoms, but officials say he does not have the deadly virus.
News 12 visited the Ibrahim family at their home in Georgetown. They say their 14-year-old cousin Jafar just got home from Sudan last night when he started feeling dizzy.
The family says officials were extra cautious, although the North African country is thousands of miles away from the outbreak.
The teen was then taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was examined and cleared of the virus. Family members say he is undergoing tests to try and figure out what exactly he is suffering from.
It comes as the World Health Organization announced Friday that more than 4,000 people have died in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. JFK Airport has implemented enhanced screening for travelers from the region.
The city's Office of Emergency Management website says there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the city or surrounding area at this time. However, they are regularly monitoring and responding to possible disease outbreaks.
