Tenants want speedier repairs to a Kingsbridge Heights building that experienced a fatal two-alarm fire.

The tenants at 2727 University Ave. say they still cannot lock their doors and are wondering how much longer it will take to get the necessary repairs done. Currently, padlocks decorate the second-floor residents' doors, which is considered a fire hazard. The residents' locks were broken after they were kicked in by firefighters.

Tenants say the Department of Housing Preservation and Development has been helpful in keeping them informed about needed repairs, but that their landlord and residential management have been missing in action.

A meeting is scheduled for Monday for tenants to voice concerns. Repeated calls to the landlord have gone unreturned.

Wendy Walton, 40, has been charged with intentionally setting the fire that killed her boyfriend, Tommy Galvin, and seriously injured 10 others, including a 4-year-old.
