Tenants without gas service ahead of Thanksgiving
A group of Grand Concourse tenants is relying on family members for Thanksgiving dinner this year, because they say they've been without cooking gas since June.
They live at 1777 Grand Concourse, where they say Con Edison shut off the gas months ago after detecting unsafe levels in the building's walls.
Since then, tenants say they've been using hot plates to cook.
New tenants who have recently arrived say they feel like they're being taken advantage of by being charged for a service they don't have.
Asden Management runs the building for 1777 GC LLC.
Critics say their landlord told them fixing the gas is Con Ed's responsibility, and Con Ed said it's the landlord's job.
A spokesperson for Asden says the company is doing what it can to restore gas to the building but had no further details.
Tenants say the building has other problems as well -- including 175 city-issued violations, 145 of which are deemed "hazardous."
