Thousands of nurses from 13 facilities across the city protested Wednesday against what they say are horrendous hospital conditions.

Over 20,000 nurses claimed in Protest of Assignment reports last year that inadequate staffing has led to longer wait times and insufficient time spent on patients. The complaints came from hospitals like New York Presbyterian, Mount Sinai St. Luke's and West Campuses and Montefiore Medical Center's Moses and Weiler Campuses.

Nurses have also said there is an insufficient patient-to-nurse ratio.

A spokesperson from the NYC Hospital Alliance tells News 12 that, rather than a mandated ratio, they support a patient-first approach built on tailored and flexible staffing plans designed by nurses to meet the individual and ever-changing needs of a patient. The spokesperson also notes that this is not a strike and will not interfere with normal operations.
