Traffic coalition demands new parkway ramps
Traffic in the East Bronx can be a nightmare, but one group says it knows a solution to cure the problem.
The Bronx East Traffic Coalition wrote to city officials two months ago calling for new ramps along the Hutchinson River Parkway, near the intersection of I-95 in Co-op City.
The coalition says it's especially frustrating because a study conducted 15 years ago found that on- and off-ramps were feasible, and a more recent study shows that lack of direct access is a major reason for congestion in the area.
Drivers complain that traffic has been an issue for many years, but it has only gotten worse since the opening of the Mall at Bay Plaza last year.
The Department of Transportation told News 12 that it's currently conducting a traffic study on I-95, near the Hutchinson River Parkway and Pelham Parkway, in an attempt to find a solution for the congestion.
