Residents in Hunts Point are calling for more safety measures along Spofford Road after dealing with several recent tragedies.
The spot where Spofford Road intersects at Tiffany and Casanova streets is a combination of residential and industrial buildings. The area is no stranger to high traffic, but those who live in the area say the roads have turned into racetracks.
Locals gathered to mourn the loss of a dog that was fatally hit by a truck driver earlier this week. Residents say until action is taken, the problem will persist.
"I'm thinking if people here knew they would get a ticket, if people knew here there was a camera, if people knew here there was a stop sign, a speed bump, I'm just throwing out ideas -- something has to be done," says resident Dalila Rivera.
