An admitted Trinitarios gang member surrendered to authorities Wednesday night for crimes he says he never committed.
Fredrick De La Cruz, who says he is a Trinitarios gang member, is facing two felony charges in connection to a robbery and assault that happened at 5 a.m. Nov. 24 at a Times Square subway station.
Police say De La Cruz and six other men were caught on surveillance video.
De La Cruz tells News 12 The Bronx that he did violate his parole curfew to attend a Brooklyn party that night, where he met the six men with whom he commuted home. He says a fight broke out as they were all leaving the subway.
Police say an 18-year-old man was robbed and stabbed by one of the suspects. De La Cruz claims he did not participate in the crime and is now being accused of acting with the others.
It's not clear if the other suspects are also members of the Trinitarios gang. Police say there's been one other arrest.
De La Cruz says due to his history with crime, he knew it wouldn't look good if he didn't turn himself in.
He surrendered himself at his brother's apartment in Soundview and was taken to NYPD's Midtown South precinct.
De La Cruz says it's up to a lawyer to prove his innocence so he can start an effort to turn his life around in 2019.
