The company behind the iconic Twinkie is going out of business.

Hostess Brands Inc. says it has already suspended bakery operations nationwide after filing a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to permanently shutter operations and sell its brands.

The company known for Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, Sno Balls and a host of other sweet treats, along with Wonder Bread, is citing a crippling union strike for its demise. More than 18,000 people will lose their jobs as a result.

Loyal, longtime customers in The Bronx are in disbelief. The news even sent many rushing to the store to buy boxes of their favorites snacks.
