University Heights storage space goes over 1 year without elevator
A visit to a University Heights storage space has been not easy task for some Bronx residents who are fed up with an out-of-order elevator.
Darney Rivers says the elevator at Extra Space Storage has been broke for more than a year in the nine-flight building.
Rivers says the lack of elevator is even harder on the elderly who use the space. He also adds that the cost has remained the same over the past year.
News 12 spoke with a mechanic who says a fix will be worked on within the next few months.
Rivers says he can never get a straight answer from the storage company.
"Every time I go in here I ask them 'when is the elevator going to get fixed?' And they say they don't know anything, they're just waiting for a piece," says Rivers.
Extra Space release a statement in response, saying, "We have been working on getting it repaired, it is currently waiting for parts to ship to finish those repairs. In the meantime, the facility has a moving company on retainer to offer free help for customers moving in or out of storage units."
