A vacant lot that residents call an eyesore in Kingsbridge is set to be transformed into a garden.

Residents say the area, located at Bailey Place and Fort Independence Street, is overgrown with weeds, garbage and rodents.

However, according to a Parks Department sign, a beautiful Green Street garden is coming soon to the site.

According to the city's website, the Green Streets program converts paved, vacant traffic islands and medians into green spaces filled with trees and shrubs.

Councilman Andy Cohen released a statement saying he has received complaints about the area and is working with the Department of Parks and Recreation and the community to make sure that the area will be taken care of and will be tended to regularly moving forward.

According to the city's website, all funding for Green Street construction is administered by the Department of Environmental Protection.

The Parks Department says it will send maintenance crews to the site by early next week.

Residents tell News 12 they are not surprised it is taking so long to clean up.
