A challenging Bronx 10K brought runners on a challenging route designed to test participants’ mental and physical toughness.
The Urban Environmental Challenge 10K took runners through Van Cortlandt Park's hidden hills, steep trails and dirt paths.
The race was organized by the Van Cortlandt Track Club and is the only true trail race in New York City.
The run has been going for 23 years, bringing generations of athletes to the historic park.
The day also featured a kids race that sought to teach younger runners about health and exercise.
Funds from the race went toward upkeep for the park.
