Van Nest residents say they're tired of seeing accidents at a dangerous intersection in their neighborhood, and they are calling on the DOT to install a traffic light.
The intersection is located on Morris Park Avenue and Melville Street.
Councilman Ritchie Torres joined members of the Van Nest Neighborhood Association Friday to demand an installation of a traffic light on Morris Park Avenue.
Torres says there have been a total of 53 injuries at the intersection.
Community members say it's nearly impossible to turn left onto Morris Park Avenue from Melville Street.
News 12 reached out to the DOT and it confirmed there have been several traffic accidents and a fatality on Morris Park Avenue near Melville Street over the last few years.
The DOT tells News 12 they're implementing a safety improvement project which would include left turning lanes on Morris Park Avenue.
News 12 also reached out to the DOT to see if it is considering installing a traffic light at the intersection.
