Victim's colleague testifies in Coello murder trial
A colleague of Tina Adovasio took the stand today in the murder trial of Adovasio's estranged husband and former police officer, Edwin Coello.
Prosecutors say Coello strangled Adovasio and left her body in the woods off the Taconic Parkway in Yorktown Heights. Coello originally told police that his wife, a nursing student at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, disappeared from their home in March 2011.
The witness, a fellow nurse, broke down after giving five minutes of testimony about the relationship she had with Adovasio. The witness said Adovasio used to say that she wanted a divorce from Coello because of their estranged relationship and his controlling ways.
The trial is expected to last another two weeks. Coello is charged with second-degree murder.
