Community members gathered to mourn the loss of 12-year-old Kade Lewin, who was fatally shot while sitting in a car with his cousins in East Flatbush one year ago Friday.
Lewin was sitting in a car on the corner of Linden Boulevard and East 56th Street on March 31, 2022, eating with his 8-year-old and 20-year-old cousins. Police say a vehicle pulled up alongside them and started firing, one of the bullets striking and killing Lewin. His older cousin was struck but survived.
Since then, Lewin’s family has been grieving for him and advocating against gun violence. Linden Boulevard has also been named after him as Kade Ashton Tyler Lewin Way.
“The pain never goes away, it seems like yesterday,” said Suzzette Lewin, Kade’s mother. “Kade was a great person, he’s a loved kid… I want all to remember him.”
Suzzette says her son would have turned 14 next month, and that his memory will live on forever in all of those who loved him.
