A nonprofit group held a vigil in Claremont Thursday to remember lives lost due to vehicle-related accidents.

Transportation Alternative is calling on city officials to make the streets safer after multiple people were killed in vehicle-related accidents last Monday. Friends and family members of the victims took part in the vigil to remember their loved ones, who were killed near Ittner and Webster avenues.

One accident took the life of a man who was riding his bike. He was hit by a truck and the driver fled the scene. Another incident claimed the life of 8-year-old Cellou Diallo, who died after being hit by a minivan. In addition, three people were injured in Mount Hope after being hit by an alleged drunken driver.

Department of Transportation officials say they will look into the incidents and determine if safety enhancements are needed at the intersection. They say some of the safety improvements already being made are set to be done by the end of the year.
