Anyone shopping for electronics this holiday season may be overwhelmed by the amount of options that are out there.
Looking for a big screen TV? Many range in price from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. It may be difficult to know the difference.
“Basically as you go up there, you’re going to get better black levels, better color levels and you’re going to get a much clearer picture,” says Brian Sesta with Best Buy.
Consumers who are willing to spend more money can opt to purchase an OLED or QLED TV. They generally offer better contrast and more vibrant colors. This is also true for televisions that feature “high dynamic range” or HDR.
“It’s not just about the television. It’s about how you see that television coming to life within your home,” Sesta says.
When buying a computer – consumers should consider what it will be used for.
For working on the road, a user may want to purchase a laptop that’s thin, light and offers good battery life. A computer used to play video games should have a faster processor and better graphic card. There are some good gaming laptops, but desktops may give more for your money.
For home entertainment systems, it is best to consider the space being used. An inexpensive soundbar will be OK to use for a small room. Homeowners may wish to purchase a better system for a larger room.
And with increased competition online, some “brick-and-mortar” stores are offering better customer service.
Sesta says that Best Buy offers a home adviser program, where a technician will come into a person’s home and show them how to set up their TV and sound systems.
Consumer experts also say that it is best to research a product before buying it by using online reviews and resources like “Consumer Reports.”
