The Melrose and Cortlandt NYCHA developments in the Bronx now have access to high-quality, low-cost broadband.
The Wi-Fi in the buildings will allow at least 2,500 residents, including students and senior citizens, to easily access everyday needs such as completing schoolwork or getting in touch with doctors.
The Wi-Fi is all through a community-owned Wi-Fi mesh network that was installed and will be kept up by a few organizations, including Blocpower. It will be governed by the residents, meaning they are in charge.
The hope is to get the upgrades to even more NYCHA housing developments in the Bronx.
