Woman accused of snatching 86-year-old woman’s purse arrested
Police arrested a woman Tuesday for allegedly robbing an 86-year-old woman's purse Sunday as she sat in a wheelchair outside her apartment building, sources say.
The suspect, 37-year-old Adrianne Terry, has eight prior arrests, the most recent in May of this year. Her newest charges are grand and petit larcenies.
Surveillance video shows a woman, identified by police as Terry, snatch the purse and run off. Another camera appears to show the same woman throwing the looted bag in a trash can.
As News 12 has previously reported, police donated $110 to the victim, Bernice Starnes, on Monday. Starnes reported losing around $100 and bank and EBT cards in the encounter.
"Picked on me because I'm in a wheelchair -- probably old enough to be your grandmother, your great-grandmother," Starnes said after hearing of Terry's arrest. "Why don't you pick on somebody your own size and your own age?"
Neighbors who live in the same Crotona Avenue building as Terry, a low-income housing facility managed by a substance abuse center, say they are not surprised by the news.
As police escorted Terry out of the 48th Precinct Tuesday evening, she muttered "I didn't do it."
