Woman charged after allegedly posing as dentist
Police say a Bronx office manager was arrested and charged after posing as a dentist in Riverdale.
Police say that Valbona Yzeiraj was arrested Thursday on charges of assault, unauthorized practice of a profession and reckless endangerment.
Officials say that the 45-year-old woman from White Plains worked at Ultimate Dental Care on Independence Avenue in Riverdale, but wasn't a New York-licensed dentist. They say that Yzeiraj even pulled patients' teeth.
The mother of three is suspected of posing as a dentist since December 2012, and records show that at least four people have complained about her.
Police say that Yzeiraj, who worked under the name "Dr. Val," would prey on the Albanian community by offering a deep discount if they paid her in cash. They say Yzeiraj is also accused of stealing $20,000 from the doctor's office.
Court documents say that Yzeiraj claimed to have dental training in her home country of Albania, but no official license in the United States.
Yzeiraj pleaded not guilty in court to all charges. Her bail was set at $20,000. If convicted, she could spend seven years behind bars.
