A woman who uses a wheelchair says she's trapped in her Edenwald apartment because of an elevator in her building that often loses service.
The woman, who didn't want to give her name or show her face on camera, says the building at 1920 Schieffelin Ave., part of the Baychester Houses. She says the elevator has been out at the six-floor building for multiple days.
The woman claims in the 20 years she has lived there, reliable elevator service has been hard to come by.
"One day it's on ... two or three days it's out. Or one week it's on and one week it's out," the woman says.
A Department of Buildings search shows some elevator issues over the years, with the most recent complaint listed in May.
For now, the tenant says she remains hopeful someone will hear her message and work on a permanent fix.
The management company responded in a statement, saying, "We took over management from NYCHA in late December 2018 and immediately began addressing the critical physical needs of the property. We are in the midst of a $49 million renovation including full modernization of its aging elevators. The Baychester complex has only a single elevator per building, which makes it especially trying when one goes down. We issue regular notices and host meetings to keep residents updated on ongoing outages and work, and have assigned on-site staff to assist residents with any mobility issues that arise."
