Woman dies after being hit by truck in Hunts Point
A 55-year-old Bronx woman has died after being hit by a truck Thursday morning in Hunts Point.
Investigators say the incident happened near Bryant and Seneca avenues at around 8:30 a.m.
Witnesses say the victim, Floria Burton, exited a deli on Seneca Avenue en route to the laundromat. She was struck while trying to cross the street with laundry in hand.
Video shows the truck stopped in the intersection next to another truck that was doubled parked. According to officials, the 44-year-old driver may not have seen the victim approach the vehicle when he accelerated and hit her.
Police say the victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition with severe head trauma and later pronounced dead.
Police say they are still investigating the cause of the crash. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
A memorial is displayed in Burton's honor on Bryant Avenue, where she lived.
