A group of community activists in the Bronx is making sure the Department of Education keeps its word when it comes to adding an expansion to an overcrowded public school.
The civic group, Women of Woodlawn, says it has created a survey for parents to fill out that addresses concerns at P.S. 19 on Katonah Avenue in Woodlawn Heights.
Among those concerns are overcrowding issues, building code compliances and limited basic services.
The group says it has been working with the school's administration and elected officials to solve the problems at the school.
In a statement, the Department of Education says it wants to continue to work closely with families and elected officials to resolve issues at P.S. 19.
The department says it will be adding an extension or additional building to the school but did not say when.
Parents say the school has been overcrowded for years.
