A $10 million revitalization initiative for the South Bronx that was announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in September is moving along.

The South Bronx is one of the city's most rapidly evolving areas. The goal of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative is to transform communities surrounding the Hub, providing more jobs, construction, safer streets and more opportunities for residents.

The intersection of Third Avenue and East 149th Street will be one of the top spots that will be renovated, with its focus on helping local businesses.

"We want to make sure we revitalize this area and we provide the small businesses and the building owners with the incentive to really and truly put some paint on," says Marlene Cintron, president of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation.

Talwyadr Singh, a South Bronx business owner, says he hopes the revamp brings more money to the neighborhood.

Cintron says she expects to have an approved blueprint for the initiative by the summer.
