12 on Health: Hand, foot, and mouth disease
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a virus commonly found in children, but recently affected professional baseball players in New York City.
Noah Syndergaard, of the Mets, and New York Yankee's J.A. Happ were both diagnosed with the viral infection in late July.
Doctors say the virus is often called Coxsackie, and while it's more common in kids under 5 years old, adults can still come down with the virus.
Symptoms include fever and fatigue before a blistering rash develops on the hands, feet, and mouth.
Doctors suggest washing your hands carefully, before and after play time with a child.
They say if you do contract the virus, stay hydrated and get rest.
The virus typically lasts three to seven days.
