A popular lighthouse in Tarrytown will get a major facelift thanks to a nearly $3 million bond.
"This lighthouse has been an iconic figure in Westchester County,” says County Executive George Latimer.
News 12 is told the County Board of Legislators passed a more than $3 million bond to allow the renovations.
The county executive also shared that the 130-year-old staple will receive a new security gate on the mainland side, new electric and exterior lighting, and reconstruction to the intermediate landing between the bridge and gangway.
County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky tells News 12 she’s excited to see the outcome. She toured the lighthouse with her family decades ago.
"This lighthouse isn't just going to be a tourist destination for people who come from other places…it's also going to be a great amenity for the people who live in Sleepy Hollow," says Shimsky. “It could be part of a really special walk with children and grandchildren.”
Restoration is set to be completed by the end of 2022.
