Police say a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot while he was walking to school with a relative Friday morning.
The shooting happened outside 1174 Sheridan Ave. at around 8:30 a.m.
Authorities say the boy, identified as Christopher Duran, was shot once in the head and twice in the stomach.
Police say it happened after Duran and his relative apparently got into a dispute with two men who approached them. They say that they believe Duran was targeted and that the gunman may have been gang-affiliated.
Investigators are searching for two suspects who fled the scene. One of the men is described as Hispanic, and the other is black, investigators say.
Family members at the scene were overcome with grief. At one point, one of Duran's relatives tried to get to his body.
Officials are offering $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest. They say that they will be releasing more surveillance video.
