Norwalk High School sophomore Gavin Chakar has hit the bigtime. The ace pitcher was selected to represent the United States at the Pan American Games next month.

He told News 12 that he is super excited to get started when the games begin in Juarez, Mexico.

"It is really exciting and it's an honor to have been chosen," he said.

Gavin, ranked the best right-handed pitcher in New England and Top 10 nationally, will go to El Paso, Texas for training, then head off to Juarez, where the Pan Am Games begin Sept. 13.

His mother is elated.

"I'm still in a little bit in shock. Super proud. I think that's the only word I could use is proud. I'm a very proud mom," she said.
