The 19th annual Havana Film Festival kicked off Friday night at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
A screening of ‘De Puerto Rico Para el Mundo’ was shown inside the museum to start the event.
Organizers say the festival has celebrated Latin culture since the year 2000. They say the film is a journey through the history of Puerto Rico's music, the artists who made it mainstream and the island's contributions to the world.
"We celebrate Latin American cinema," says Film Festival Artistic Director Diana Vargas. “We celebrate the idea of everybody coming together and to enjoy the Latin culture. "
Attendees were able to stay and listen to a live performance by one of the narrators in the film after the screening.
