A two-alarm fire in Claremont sent one tenant to the hospital Tuesday.
Flames broke out on the sixth-floor of an East 171st Street apartment building. The fire department was able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
A woman who was inside her apartment when the fire started was taken to Lincoln Hospital in serious condition. Neighbors say she is known for taking great care of her two dogs.
They say she was yelling for them to be rescued while running for help. Firefighters were able to get one dog out of the apartment and reunite it with the owner, but unfortunately the other dog died in the fire.
Tenants of the building have gone back inside their apartments since the fire, but some say there is no way they will be able to live in them as is.
