Police say two homeless men were shot, one fatally, Saturday morning in New York City.
Investigators are now searching for the shooter.
According to police, officers first responded to a shooting in the 5th precinct at approximately 4:30 a.m. They say a 38-year-old Hispanic homeless man was shot in the arm and is being treated at Bellevue Hospital.
Investigators say they respond to a second shooting, this one fatal, within the 5th Precinct at at approximately 6 a.m. The victim, a Black man, was shot in the head and neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mayor Eric Adams called it a cold-blooded act of murder and added that video of the incident is chilling.
“This is why we are doubling down to remove illegal guns off our streets,” Adams said.
Police say there is no indication that the individuals were targeted based on their race.
The NYPD says based on video, the shootings appear to be random and not targeted.
