Suspect in 2021 antisemitic attack pleads guilty to crimes

The perpetrator in an antisemitic attack that took place in 2021 has pled guilty to his crimes.
Blake Zavadsky vividly remembers what happened to him in Bay Ridge in December 2021, when he was punched twice and had iced coffee thrown on him due to the Israeli Defense Force apparel he had on.
“Growing up, I was always in that neighborhood, I wore that sweatshirt millions of times around here and there and never did I have an issue,” said Zavadsky.
According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, the perpetrator, Suleiman Othman, of Staten Island, turned himself in two weeks after the assault took place. On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to attempted assault as a hate crime.
Othman was sentenced to 60 days in jail with three years of probation. Although the Zavadsky family hoped he would receive a harsher punishment, they hope that this case encourages other victims of hate crimes to speak up.
