A man died following a shooting in Crotona Park Monday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The incident took place at around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Freeman Street and Longfellow Avenue.

News 12 spoke to one woman who tried to help save the victim's life after she heard the gunshots.

"I'm talking to him... 'stay with me, stay with me'," said Charlotte, the witness who leapt into action for the victim. "I'm screaming like 'someone call 911'... I grabbed my phone, and I was holding his neck. I was doing everything at one time, I just reacted."

Charlotte says she was traumatized that the man did not make it.

The NYPD has made no arrests.
