Millions of observing Muslims around the world are joining together in celebration of Eid, one of the religion’s biggest holidays.

Thousands gathered on the lawn of Bronx Park to celebrate as a united Muslim community on Wednesday, June 28. The day marks the start of Eid Al-Adha, also known as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’.

The holiday observes the holy pilgrimage to Mecca that all Muslims who can travel are required to take it at least once in their lifetime.

Local Muslims in the Bronx celebrated being together and gave each other thanks for the first day of the holiday. The Eid Al-Adha festival lasts for four days, ending on Sunday evening.
