South Bronx welcomes new colorful mural

A new massive mural that encapsulates the spirit of the South Bronx is now on display at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Southern Boulevard.
The mural was made possible by funding from the Urban Health Plan, who partnered with Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice and other local organizations.
It includes quotes and small messages and features three key individuals – Dr. Richard Izquierdo, founder of Urban Health Plan, Grammy award-winning musician Raymond Santos, and DJ-ing pioneer DJ Grand Wizzard.
"What you see are images, themes, feedback from the community of things that they wanted on their wall,” said David Shuffler, executive director for Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice.
Five artists came together to complete the piece, and one of the artists told News 12 that it took around five days to complete. DJ Grand Wizzard, the only person on the mural who is still alive, says it sends a powerful message.
"I want people that live here to know that it doesn't matter where you from, you can still make a difference in this world,” said DJ Grand Wizzard.
