The second phase of the Hunts Point Improvement Project is nearing completion, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The $1.7 billion project’s goal is to increase safety, reduce air pollution and road congestion. Hochul acknowledged that phase two is scheduled to be completed next month.

“Why were back here, is a transformation of Hunts Point to make our commute smoother,” she said.

Phase two includes improvements to the Bruckner Expressway with wider roadways, new exit and entrance ramps, and a shared pathway under the expressway connecting to Garrison Park. Hochul also announced an extra $10 million for zero-emission school buses and more electrical charging stations throughout the borough.

The third and final phase of the project is expected to be complete by the fall of 2025.
