A group of lucky Bronx residents have access to fresh produce thanks to a local community farm that's fighting back against food insecurity one veggie at a time.

The New Roots Community Farm has spent the past decade growing a variety of produce from colorful vegetables to tasty fruits, nourished by dedicated local volunteers.

"There is a lot of food insecurity in the Bronx, and we want our community members to have access to fresh, locally grown food," said Sheryll Durant, food and agriculture coordinator for the New Roots program. "They're in control of what is grown and what they eat. They are in control of their lives, and that's what we want for our community - to be in control of the food that they eat."

Neighborhood residents are welcomed to stop by and pick the fresh ingredients straight from the garden in an effort from New Roots to empower the community to make healthier choices.

The garden is open to the public until the end of October.
