Two Bronx organizations can now help more people learn about money and how to manage it, thanks to a new $1.1 million financial literacy program from the state.
Ariva and BronxWorks are part of 11 organizations across the state that received a $100,000 grant from the state’s new financial literacy pilot program.
The state says it is meant to combat poverty and help low income New Yorkers build wealth through one-on-one financial counseling.
The staff at Ariva says the new funds are already helping them expand their personalized counseling services to new areas of the Bronx.
"The value of the funding is to be able to be near the community, so that people can walk into our sites and know that they can find somebody that is good quality, somebody that has their benefits in mind when they are working on their finances," said Adelaida Morin, a senior program director at Ariva.
