Parents of students at a school in Soundview tell News 12 that they think kids should be excused from school with the temperatures so high.

New York City Public Schools says custodians will be going in early this week to ensure that air conditioning systems are working properly before children come in for the day. They add that every school that was a part of the AC for All initiative has been equipped with the proper air conditioning.

School officials say that they will be working with the Department of Health for guidance and best practices during this heat wave - including reduced outdoor activity, making sure kids stay hydrated, and using air conditioning as often as possible.
Despite the high temperatures, the state's Department of Education says that Regents exams will still be taking place at their regularly scheduled times.
