A total of 19 new citizens were sworn in Tuesday at the Starvos Niarcho Public Library in Manhattan.
Each of them were from different countries, and many of them were proud to say they are American.
Two new citizens who were sworn in are a part of the United States military. Oscar Innocent tells News 12, "I'm grateful for this opportunity, especially on the cusp of July 4. It's not something I take lightly, I'm proud to be a citizen of the greatest country in the world."
Innocent has lived in the Bronx for five years after coming here from Nigeria.
Another military member, Cristian Diaz, serves in the U.S. Army as a National Guard and says this July 4 is extra special to him because this year, he's celebrating Independence Day as a U.S citizen.
