Sources: Man punched in face during fight at Wakefield home has died

Police identified the victim as Mark Gocul. Sources say the fight started over stolen property and Gocul was punched in the face multiple times by an unknown person

A 50-year-old man died Saturday from injuries incurred during a fight on June 23 in his home on Furman Avenue in Wakefield, NYPD sources say.

Police identified the victim as Mark Gocul. Sources say the fight started over stolen property and Gocul was punched in the face multiple times by an unknown person.

Sources told News 12 that they believe the suspect also lived in the same house as Gocul.

He suffered bruising and swelling and later checked himself into Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital where he slipped into a coma.

The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Neighbors News 12 spoke with said rooms inside the home are rented out and no one stays there for long periods of time.
