News 12 previously reported he Family Deli, located at 4011 East Tremont Ave., was shut down after authorities found over 170 pounds and $1 million in cannabis products and other drugs such as mushroom products.

Now, "Grand Opening" signs hang outside and the deli is open for business.

When News 12 originally reported the store was set to reopen, members in the community expressed concern.

People like Lorraine Muth, an employee of Uncle Louie G's, say it's been better since it reopened.

"It's a complete turnaround now, so much better," said Muth.

Someone who wanted to remain anonymous says when he heard it was going to open, he was concerned. But so far, he says it's been fine.

“I was concerned because I saw young college and high school kids going in and not coming out with anything. I don’t see that now, hopefully it stays like this. Someone should periodically check to be sure," he said.

The New York City Sheriff's Office says the business is temporarily open pending litigation and is subject to inspection by the Sheriff Joint Compliance Task Force.

News 12 spoke with executive director of the Throggs Neck Business Improvement District.

"I don't deny the right for anybody to make a living, as long as it's legal. As long as you’re legitimate and doing it the right way, we welcome you with open arms," said Jaen.

Jaen adds he just wants to see this area safe.

“What happens if one of your children, whoever I’m talking to, your home sitting down and your kids are outside playing and, God forbid, you hear or someone comes to your door and says your child has O.D.'ed," said Jaen

News 12 reached out to the owner of the deli but hasn't yet heard back.
