Residents of Morris Heights can finally warm up after spending more than 14 hours without power due to a manhole fire. The incident on Undercliff Avenue left the entire area in the dark late Tuesday night.
Con Edison crews worked through frigid temperatures to replace burnt and damaged power lines caused by the fire.
“It’s been bad,” said resident Sedelle, who described wearing multiple layers just to stay warm.
Ashley, another resident, shared her frustration.
“I have a daughter who lives in a home with no boiler, no hot water, and obviously no electricity. It’s freezing cold outside," says Ashley.
Aileen Ramos, another resident, recounted what she saw.
“I saw a lot of smoke coming out from the sewer. Con Edison came and shut off the light," says Ramos.
By late Wednesday evening, Con Edison confirmed that power had been fully restored.
