Problems persist at 138 Bruckner Blvd. after flooding followed days of darkness.

Tenants tell News 12 that issues began at the luxury apartment building almost as soon as they moved in. The property opened last year through the Housing Lottery, boasting amenities like a pool, gym, basketball court and more. However, residents claim access to these facilities has been inconsistent at best.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, JCS Realty, who manages the property, said that frozen sprinkler heads burst, flooding the building. Then, if you go back a few days to Feb. 18, residents say they were stumbling through the dark because of a power outage.

“I'm just talking about amenities now. We're not talking about all the basic utilities,” said new resident Noor Nabi, who is already considering moving out. “No electricity, no heating. [In] December, there was like six days in a row [without power].”

The power has since come back on and the water’s been swept away, but tenants say they are not getting what their more than $3,000 rent promises.

“We were told that we would have a pool, a spa, sauna, steam room, a gym, a basketball court, fully equipped Pilates room, yoga room,” said Nabi. “They will tour you around every single unavailable amenity and they won't say a thing about it.”

JCS Realty disputes this claim, saying only the pool was closed off when residents moved in because the company is still awaiting clearance from the city Health Department. The real estate group says the other amenities were shut down due to another incident of flooding but will reopen in the next few weeks.

The company gave a timeline of a week for a status update on repairs.
