Disabled Melrose resident unable to leave her home due to broken elevators

Madelyn Archer, a disabled and partially blind Melrose resident has been unable to leave her apartment to go to her doctor appointments due to faulty elevators.
Archer, who lives at 390 E. 158th Street on the seventh floor, says the elevators have been off and on for the last three months. Archer says despite filing multiple 311 complaints and calling management, nothing has been done.
"Right now, I'm unable to do anything because I'm unable to get down the stairs. How can you even do that with disabled people here?" said Madelyn Archer.
News 12 reached out to Wavecrest, the management company, for an interview. It responded with the following written statement:
“Two weeks ago, an illegal e-bike fire in the building triggered the sprinklers and subsequently caused water damage to the elevator bank. We immediately obtained a proposal from our third-party elevator repair company, received a proposal for parts and repair service earlier this week, and are waiting for approval from our insurance company to begin the repairs. We expect repairs to begin by early next week and be fully completed later that week. We have three on-site staff members available 24/7 to assist residents while the elevator is down.”
