A 78-year-old woman was fatally struck Saturday night at an intersection in Williamsbridge, according to police.

Authorities say the woman was walking in the roadway at White Plains Road and East 216th Street when a silver Toyota struck her.

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The 56-year-old driver remained at the scene.

Some pedestrians in the area say the median dividing White Plains Road has made it easier to cross the long busy street.

One person, however, said that reckless driving still makes him feel unsafe while crossing.

It was unclear as of Sunday evening if the driver was speeding.

A resident told New 12he’s witness drivers speed down the roadway before and thinks something should be done about it.

Police say no arrests have been made.
