A state attorney general's preliminary review found a police officer did not cause the death of a 19-year-old man during a standoff in Central Nyack two years ago.

The review found Sean Harris died after Clarkstown police responded to his home on May 30, 2023, following a call from social workers requested by his mother.

Police described Harris as combative, firing a beanbag shotgun at him after he held a bat and made threats. Harris retreated inside and refused to exit.

After three hours, officers found him unconscious in the bathroom with pill bottles nearby.

The attorney general's findings were sent to the Rockland district attorney, who has not commented.

The Harris family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in July 2024.
