Both elevators at 3560 Webster Ave. continue to be out of service.

According to tenants and GRC Management, the building's management company, the elevators broke down on May 30.

News 12 reached out to management for an explanation of the technical issues and a potential service return time, but they never responded.

Nearly two weeks following the breakdown, management provided and update for tenants. In a notice posted to the front door of the building from management, GRC Management stated:

"This note is to update you on the current situation with elevator service as of today, June 6, 2025. On May 29, 2025, a resident of the building hung a backpack from the sprinkler head in the 4th floor elevator foyer. This caused the sprinkler head to break and as a result, the sprinkler system turned on. The resulting flood caused major damage to both elevator cars, including electrical/mechanical components and the elevator cables. The elevator service company has been on site twice so far to assess damage, and we expect a detailed damage report today. There are many new parts that will need to be ordered to start the repairs. We cannot determine at this time exactly how long the elevators will be inoperable, but you will be notified as soon as we have an update. We are working diligently with the elevator company to return the elevators to safe operation as soon as possible."

Tenants told News 12 they aren't satisfied with the response. Many residents said they need an estimated restoration time.

The apartment building consists of 13 floors. Living on those floors are many older New Yorkers and residents with disabilities.

Tenants tell News 12 they are forced to use the stairs, but not everyone can make the trip.

One tenant, Rochelle, relies on her wheelchair. For nearly two weeks she said she was trapped in her apartment with no one to get down. Desperate to leave her building, she said she turned to a friend.

"My friend carried me down 13 flights... her, her children, and a neighbor." said Rochelle. She said the good Samaritans needed to take apart her wheelchair - piece by piece - to get it to the ground level.

News 12 reached out again to GRC management for a timeline on the repairs.
